How to use VOIP with Android

Do you have a cell phone plan that limits the number of phone call minutes you can use every month? Are you always going over your minutes? Did you know that you can talk on your phone as long as you like, and never be charged a minute of usage? Since many smart phones are like little computers, you can utilize the internet to make and receive calls.

Android

Using VOIP on an Android phone can avoid any limitations that your phone carrier has placed on your account. Just think; you can make as many calls as you would like and never have an overage. There are a few things that you would need to make this happen. First, obviously you would need an Android based phone with a data plan. Second, you would have to open up a free Google Voice account. By just having these 2 items in place, you can realistically cut your minutes in half. By using Google Voice, you can make free outgoing calls, but any incoming calls to your cell phone using Google Voice would be charged your normal minutes.

In order to never use your minutes again, or even not have a voice plan on your phone you would need a third item; a “free” app, such as SIPGATE, from the Android Marketplace. If you add the “free” app, you can virtually never be charged any minute charges ever again. These apps are designed to allow you to receive free phone calls. This is why you would need both products, in addition to your Android phone, to be totally free of the limitations your carrier places upon you.

All you would have to do is follow the instructions from your Google Voice account and the app that you chose to successfully install on your phone and you will be able to send and receive calls using VOIP on your Android phone. It does take a few steps, but the savings and headaches that can be saved are well worth the time invested.
